"Broaden your perspective, share your passion.”
Florida Council for History Education (FLCHE) is pleased to present our 4th annual conference in Boca Grande, Florida.  Please join us as we share our organization’s mission to promote history in education as a way to appreciate the progress and awareness of past and present events.  Conference presentations will reflect the theme, Communication in History:  The Key to Understanding, and may relate to Florida’s role in history.  All sessions will focus on building content knowledge, promoting history education and disciplinary literacy, and the use of primary sources.
FLCHE aligned our conference theme with the 2021 National History Day theme to support teaching and learning needs for next year's contest!

Keynote Speakers
Dr. Edward Lengel
Picture
Storyteller. World traveler. Adventure enthusiast.
To unfold history’s human core. This has long been my passion. It means rediscovering the people of the past, embracing their humanity with compassion, and re-introducing them and the drama of their lives to people of the present. The lands they fought for, and the fields and streams that sustained them, contain our collective history. This is what I bring to my writing. And to you.

Although I’ve spent the greater part of my career as a professional military historian, my passion is as a storyteller, seeking to unfold history’s human core. By walking through ancient lands, sites and battlefields in my own hiking boots, the contents of manuscripts, letters and other sources come alive for me.
I strive to capture that feeling in my writing, tours, and presentations to reduce the distance between our present and our collective past. From the tough realities of military history to the passions and interests of our first president, I aim to write history that’s trustworthy, but what I really want to hear, to read, to write are simply cracking good stories.
